NaNo Prep

After much thought, I've decided to try NaNoWriMo again this year. Some of you remember that I participated last year, but didn't finish.

After doing both camps this year, and still not finishing, I had been contemplating skipping NaNo this year. School is completely different from last year, I may be working part-time, and I definitely will be baking to earn extra money. So I may not have much in the way of free time, but I've found that I can actually get more done when I'm busy.

So yes, despite all the excuses I could use I'm doing NaNoWriMo.

I'm going to re-write the story I worked on last year. 1, because I now know (loosely) what I want the series to look like. 2, because what I had been writing was in no way going to work with the rest of the series. 3, because I have a bunch of new ideas for it. 4, because, let's face it, the first draft looks like a bunch of sarcasm and low-quality storytelling- it truly is awful.

It's even got a new title! Instead of The Exile and the Songbird, I have The Songbird. It'll work much better, because I wasn't even sure how I would make the original character an exile, and the title is now shorter and easier to remember. forget how captain-obvious-y that was

A furious dragon Queen. Wouldn’t want to get in her way.
Deception. Adds intrigue, wouldn’t you say?
The arranged marriage long awaited.
Curses. On the Hero or the Villain, who can tell?
A Songbird and a Pirate. Will all end well?

Are you doing NaNoWriMo this year?
What will you be writing about?

    1. Yeah, that's roughly about the same time I end up dropping it. I'm pretty sure I get a Thanksgiving break for my classes, so hopefully I'll have at least a little extra time.
Since I was doing school at my own pace last year, I'm pretty sure I worked up until Thanksgiving day and just had a longer weekend.

  2. Hmm, should I try it? I've never done it before, but now that I have a novel I'm actually working on, perhaps I should try it. I don't really understand exactly what it is, though, and whenever I look it up I get vague answers. Could you give a quick explanation of what NaNoWriMo is??

    1. Well, you'll never know if you like it until you try it.

      Here is the website: http://nanowrimo.org
There should be an "about" page, but if there's not, here's the basic rundown.

NaNo starts on the first day of November and lasts until the last day of November. Your goal is to write 50,000 words in that time bracket. You can be continuing off of a draft, but you can't count the words you wrote before the start of the month. There are tons of forums to interact with the other participants. You can become writing buddies with other people you know.

It should be pretty easy to figure out. Most of what I know comes from playing around on the website. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask me. :D

  3. Yay, you're doing it!! *goes to add you as a buddy* I didn't do it last year because I've always hated that it's in the month of November and I wasn't ready to draft my first novel that fast. This year I was going to skip it because I was publishing my novel. But turns out my book's gonna be at my editor for half the time, and I LOVED Camp NaNo in July. So I'm totally doing it! Here's to hoping we can both win this year! *clinks glass*

  4. GO YOU!! I wish you all the luck in the world in this endeavor. I myself will not be doing NaNoWriMo (I don't think so, at least), but I hope to hear plenty of updates (no pressure) from you and other bloggers participating. :)
