The Snippet Tag

Image
*cough cough*  *emerges from hiding* I have a treat for you! Snippets!  (And don't worry, this is not the snippet post I have been promising ever since NaNo ended. Like, sheesh. That would have been a letdown. Anywho...) Sare  tagged me a while back. Ever since NaNo it's been making the rounds through the blogging community, and I had been interested in it. But I am a polite pirate and refuse to steal a tag unless it's a really good one that I haven't seen very much. And we all know the drill. Answer the questions, then select a couple fabulous bloggers to carry it on. 1. Share your most gripping, fascinating, and hooking first line of a story.  Hold up.  Line?  Only one line? *ditches that* Dust and ash. Cloud. The stench of burnt-ness hovered in the stuffy air. Red was the horizon. Darkness everywhere else.             A Queen sat on her throne. A creaky kind o...

Monthly recap: October

Image
A little early, but then, I've never been one to follow a strict schedule. Stats: Happenings: 1. Lydia turned 19! 2. I started baking cinnamon rolls and selling them  because frankly, I do not have a lot of money . 3. I applied to a couple different Mardels and Hobby Lobby, so hopefully I can land a part time job. 4. We finally finished working on the rent house and got the renters (a family from church) moved in. (YAY) 5. I hit the halfway point of my college classes. My total grades are still averaged in the 90's, fingers crossed they stay that way (thus far, I have a perfect GPA and I'm trying to keep it as long as I can). (ALSO YAY) 6. I started looking at cars so I can figure out roughly how much I need to save. The civic is nice, yes, but it's not always reliable and you're practically sitting on the road when you're driving. Only one of the rear doors opens, and only from the inside. It does have pretty good fuel ef...

Monthly recap: August

Image
August is already over? What even!? *cough* Actually August was one of my slower months as you can see from the huge number of blog posts I did  the lack thereof . Like seriously, two posts!? I have an excuse! (sort of) I did find a bunch of new music and I almost drowned when my online classes started (needless to say, to my shame, math was quickly pushed to the backburner. Gotta work on not doing that, I know). Also, I've been drooling over  the beach webcam . Mom and I are flying over on Monday, and the rest of the fam will join us on the 7th. Aunt Cendei is coming with us this time! She's gone with us two other times, but skipped last year. Stats and other bloggy news: 138 posts (counting this one) 848 comments 33 followers through Google (if you're following by email I have no idea how to keep track of you) 176 views is the record for one post 51 views is the highest for one post this month 24,958 pageviews all time Pageviews by country: Entry P...

Beautiful People: Millicent (dun dun DUN)

Image
Find July's post  here . If you have any questions, go  here . You can join any time, and it's super fun too! I'm going to do mine on Millicent, who is a very, I repeat, VERY big character in at least two (most likely more) of my stories. She's the villain in one, and I can't tell you very much about her in the other one right now, because huge spoilers.  Onwards! Do they want to get married and/or have children? Why or why not? Actually, she did get married, but I can't tell you who she married, because that would completely give away The Huge Spoiler. She did have a daughter though. (hold on a sec, I gave you a sizeable hint a post or two ago here )  What is their weapon of choice? (It doesn’t necessarily have to be a physical weapon.) Her wit. What’s the nicest thing they’ve done for someone else, and why did they do it? She would say that the nicest thing she's done thus far is leaving. Her daughter would say otherwise. H...

My own little raptor squad

Image
Normally, I'd wait until the end of the month to do a life update, but since when are rules always followed around here? *scratches head* Christian and I finished our first college class last week. Our professor ordered pizza and I made cookies. We finished out our presentations. I also got to drive the Tank again, because we don't exactly know how extensive the damage is on the civic so Dad doesn't want me driving it around. So that was a thing. Our pool is almost full! I repeat, our pool is almost full! why in the world did I misspell "almost" twice in a row? Public Speaking class started Monday. The professor seems ok, but here are more students in this class, so that'll be interesting. Grey has started to push her chicks out into the world. She's not defending them or gathering them to herself quite as much. They've almost all got their grown-up feathers, except in a few patches where they're still growing. Their long legs really make ...
