Catching up

Warning: this is going to be an incredibly long post, so you may want to come back to it later.

*cracks knuckles*

Alright, let's do this!

Tags:

On January 21st, Mary tagged me for the Blogging About Blogs tag.

The Rules:

1. Thank the person who tagged you. (thanks dearie!)
2. Answer the questions.
3. Tag some blogging friends.

The Questions:

1) Blog that makes me laugh:
Cait at Paper Fury has a hilarious blog. I almost always end up making rather unladylike snorts whilst trying to keep the giggles at bay.

Also, Treskie at Occasional Randomness,  Jack at However improbable , and Writefury always manage to brighten my day when I'm feeling down.

2) Blog that makes me think:
Just one? Are you kidding me? No way, I'm so bending this rule (I'll probably end up bending all of them)

Kara  at Coffee With KaraAmanda at Scattered Journal PagesChristine  at Musings of an ElfScott at Encounter. Encourage. Engage. , and the list goes on...

3) Blog that teaches me things:
I'd have to say, I wouldn't know as many facts about Lord of the Rings, if I didn't read Lover of Lembas!

4) Blog with beautiful headers:
Hands down, Olivia's blog always has gorgeous headers! I mean, seriously, just look at the one she has right now:

5) Blogger who takes great pictures:
My friend, Christy takes AMAZING photos! Seriously, check out her website here.

6) Blogger whose recommendations I trust:
Most of the blogs I follow have the same or similar reading preferences as I do, so yeah, we'll go with everyone.

7) New blog(s) I'm enjoying:
Sunshine and Scribblings and Geeky, Nerdy, and Proud of it, according to my reading list.

8) Blog I've followed the longest:
Most likely Olivia's. It's hard to believe that it's almost been a year since I got sucked into the blogosphere. :D

9) Blog I've started following the most recently:

See answer #7

Now, on to tag #2!

Fawnabelle  tagged me on January 23rd for the Sisterhood of the World Award. This'll be what, the third time I've been nominated/tagged for this award? Hehe, I'm still doing it anyways. :D

The Rules:

I'm guessing just answer the questions, create a couple more, then pass it on to some other bloggers.

The Questions:

1. What is your favorite fandom?
After careful thought and consideration, I've decided that The Lord of the Rings is my favorite fandom. Other fandoms I enjoy are Marvel, The Hobbit, Narnia, and Pirates of the Caribbean.

2. Are you obsessed with that fandom?
Of course! I mean, perhaps not as much as some people, but I'll have you know that reading the trilogy all the way through is just one step below actually walking to Mordor and destroying the ring.

3. What is your favorite book, and why?
aside from the Bible, I have way too many to list properly. However, to avoid your disappointment, here is the list that is also on my "Introducing Me" page:

The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J. R. R. Tolkien

Heartless by Anne Elisabeth Stengl (There is a reason for the title, the book is an allegory)
(basically any of her books^)

The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, and The Horse and His Boy by C. S. Lewis

Pretty much any book by Janette Oke.

To name a few.

4. What is your favorite hobby?
Like any good Bookdragon, my hobby is, of course, reading.

5. How much time and effort do you put into your hobby?
It depends on how much time I have, and what book I'm reading. It can either be 30 minutes, or 4 hours. There is no in-between.

6. Where would you live in any fictional world and why?
I would love to visit Lothlorien, and also The Shire, but I'd rather live in Mirkwood.

7. What is your favorite movie and why?
See answers to question #1.

8. What is one meal that you think you can eat every day forever?
Chicken pot pie with bluebell vanilla ice cream and Aron's brownies for dessert.

9. You just won the lottery. What would you buy first?
*panics* hmmmm... *nervously wrings hands* *looks out the window* *throws hands in the air* I have no idea!
Maybe a time machine?

10. If you were a cookie, what kind of cookie would you be?
Probably oatmeal chocolate chip.

Now, I tag those of you who are in your pajamas for the Sisterhood award, and I tag those of you who had tea today for the Blogging about Blogs tag. And, if you don't qualify, just go ahead and steal, it, I won't tell. Go wild. :D

Answers to the "Inquire if thou pleaseth" post.

It's been a long time coming, and for that, I apologize.

Meredith asked:
What is one of the worst movies you've seen?
Gotta be Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Yeah, it's old, but really, now I know how not to make a movie.

1. Do you have a favorite tea flavor?
Flavors, the answer is plural. :)

Peppermint is usually my go-to, but peach is also really good. Oh, and, blueberry is also amazing with a drop or two of lemon oil mixed in.

2. Do you have a favorite piece of furniture in your house?
Probably the couch.

3. Where do you best like to read?
On my bed, or on the couch, basically wherever.

4. When was the last time a book made you laugh out loud?
Oh goodness, I don't even remember. *wracks brain for recently read books* I think it was a couple weeks ago, when I read Alcatraz (I, Q, #6).

5. If you could spend one day with any fictional character, whom would it be?
Bilbo Baggins. I'd love to see all his books and maps.

6. What is your favorite Christmas movie?
White Christmas. It's a family tradition for those of us who want to to watch it on Christmas eve.

7. Do you have a favorite Les Miserables character?

I like Eponine, but I feel like she could have had a little more backbone concerning Marius. She was rather wishy-washy where he was concerned.

8. If you have a bookshelf in your room (if not, then just choose one from somewhere in your house), how many books are on it?
I do have a bookshelf in my room, but I do not know how many books are on it.

Probably a lot, but not quite as many as a hard-core bookdragon would have, because I don't like spending a lot of money on books when there's a library five minutes away, and I can just drive myself there pretty much whenever I want (within reason) (oh yeah, I passed my driver's test, and now have my license). It's my thrifty side showing through.

Laura asked:

1. What is your favorite time of year?
Ugh, that's a hard one. There is no way I can put this without it sounding incredibly cliché. Christmas is my favorite time of the year.

2. What "myths" about homeschoolers are true about you/your family?

I don't know if this qualifies as a "myth" but I don't think any of us know what grades we are in.
That sums that up

Aaannnnd that's all I can think of.

Kathryn put some of these questions up on her blog, and invited her followers to pick and choose which ones to answer, if they felt so inclined.

1. What is your favorite "classic" game? (for instance, hide and seek, tag, etc.)
"Mafia" is really fun, also, "all it" (but that game is best to play when you have a ton of people).

2. Would you rather be very pretty(average smarts) or very smart(average looks)?
Being smart is better than being pretty. I'd rather no how to diffuse a bomb than know the proper way to put on lipstick.

3. What do you admire in a person?
Loyalty, self-sufficiency, a get-it-done attitude, intelligence, and the list goes on...

4. What is your favorite historical time period? Why?
Medieval, because the clothes looked way better back then, than they do now.

5. Would you rather be a mermaid (you get a tail and uber long hair!) or a fairy (you get wings and magical powers!)
Quite frankly, I'd rather be a fairy, because there are no sharks on dry land, and because I've always wanted to fly.

And that's all of that.

Now for snippets, because I've been promising them to y'all since November:

~

“First of all, I’d like to know where you learned all those words, I’ve never heard you use such language before,” Abrom said, his teasing tone pierced the darkness and reached his wife’s ears.

“I’ll have you know that I’ve been practicing them all afternoon,” Septima giggled. “One must know the proper usage of such words, and the proper time and place to say them, after all. Leti has been teaching me, and they’ve come in handy on more than one occasion.”

~

It wasn’t fair that Amarth made her wear the form of a dragon at the slightest provocation. It wasn’t fair the Amarth, though he had given her the power to do dangerous things, still withheld the key to prevent her from releasing the storm. It wasn’t fair that Amarth wouldn’t fulfill his promise of flight. It wasn’t fair that Amarth restrained her so tightly from doing what she bargained for. Indeed, nothing was fair about anything concerning Amarth, Millicent raged.

~

Margaret carefully set Aria down on her cot, placed the arrow on the ground, and opened her trunk. Fauna and Florence knelt at their trunks, and opened them as well. A flood of memories assailed them. The cold nights in the rain and snow without a place to rest, the icy winds when a fire could not be made to warm them, the hot sun during mid summer, dusty roads, dirty inns, nights spent in dangerous forests when no-one would let them inside. The days spent laughing and playing in streams, cool walks at twilight, watching the waves beat at the cliffs. Defending themselves against bandits, fleeing from danger. All the things they had experienced during the four hundred years of hiding.

~

Once their son was back in bed, Abrom turned to face his wife. “I don’t think I’ve ever caught a bullfrog in my life!” He whispered loudly.

~

Over the next four hundred years, they wandered about, always together, always aging themselves to the likeness old women, then becoming young girls again, and changing their appearances, so as not to seem to others as if they were immortal. Then slowly, they worked their way back to the royal family. Cunobelinus was now just a figure of history, and even his heir, the one on the throne, knew that what his forefather had done was not right. The sisters gradually gained access to the castle as workers. One as a healer’s apprentice, one as the cook’s helper, and the other as a garden maid.

~

And I'm afraid that's all I have to share for the moment.

No Movie Quotes this time, perhaps some other time.

Question time!

All from the same story, just not in order....because I'm weird like that. ;)

  2. You made me laugh, and I love that!
Here are my answers to your questions . . . I liked all the snippets – what book were they from?
I really like the 1940s, but I think I'd have to say that my favorite time period is around the Civil War. There were so many interesting people, and such weird fashions!
Yeah, being smart is better than being pretty (I don't particularly fall into either category . . .)
Homeschooler myths . . . I have no idea, but my favorite tea would be something herbal.

    1. Mission accomplished then. :D

They are from the book inside my head, that I currently have the privilege of putting on paper, so to speak. ;)

I love Civil War fashions as well, but some of the contraptions they had to wear must have been rather uncomfortable.

      Herbal is awesome!

Glad you enjoyed the post! :D

  3. *sigh*...Eponine. She's a good favorite.

My favorite snippet? Maybe the fourth one. Those are good!

Favorite historical period-- *maybe* medieval. That's a really hard question, though.

    Yes, intelligence over beauty. :)

Well, I do a lot of school in my pajamas. Stereo-typical homeschool behavior;)

    Favorite tea: apple cinnamon.

    1. Thanks! I like that snippet as well. :)

School in pajamas, it's been a while since I've been able to get away with that... :)

*gasp* I have a box of that tea too! (So good!)

  4. Oh my, I'm glad you're enjoying my blog! You made my day X)
First snippet is my favorite--sounds intriguing!
Favorite historical time period: I'm siding with you and saying medieval times...frankly though I would not want to live on that time (not the best with medicine and well, sanitation) but I love learning about their culture and their values.
Smarts over beauty any day! Our bodies are only temporary anyway.
    Well, I'm not homeschooled, so...haha ;)
Yum so many options for tea! I'm going to go with black tea, steeped for about a minute and a half after being heated for two minutes. Also, best served with book and a fireplace. And slippers.

    1. Haha, you're welcome! :D

Thanks, it was supposed to be a serious part, but you know how characters can be, especially when left unattended for a few days...

Yeah the medical knowledge of that era was extremely lacking, as well as sanitary standards. :/

      True, true. :)

A minute and a half almost never happens for me, mostly because I start it, then forget about it for about an hour or more. Served with a book is always best. ;)

    2. You speak (type?) the truth!
Oh and by the way, I brought you a tag! It's the book shelf tag and I just started it--I'm trying to get it catch on XD If you're interested, the details are on my site: loveroflembas.blogspot.com

  5. Ooh, thank you so much for doing the tag, dearie! I shall have to read this post in its entirety later because it looks wonderful and I don't have time at the moment.

As far as my favorite historical period, I'd probably say either the '50s or medieval times. I would gladly live in the '50s but definitely not the Middle Ages (because hygiene and infinitesimal life-spans and little things like that) so maaaybe I'd pick the '50s. I also love the Renaissance time period!

  6. Thanks for doing the tag! You were awarded three times? What the hay?

Favorite snippet? Kind of digging the last. I dunno there's something about it...

Favorite historical time period? Hmm... This is a tough one... Um, late 18th century? I really love Pride and Prejudice if you can believe that :D

Being smart is better than pretty? Yes! Definitely!

Homeschooling myth? Pajamas late into the day, don't know what grade I'm in, done with school by lunch, and keep calm and pretend it's on the lesson plan XD

Tea? I don't drink it that often but when I do, it's Spring Peach with two sugarcubes ;)

    1. Yeah, when you're following lots of people in the same blogging community, and several if them follow you back, double tagging is not uncommon! (Plus, it's fun to see what different questions people come up with for the same tag) :D

Oh yeah, Pride and Prejudice was one of my Dad's favorite movies, so I can easily believe that you wiuld like it :) Late 18th century had some pretty cool clothes, but personally, I wouldn't want to have my future revolve around getting married to whoever would make the best match, money wise.

"Keep calm, and pretend like it's on the lesson plan." Oh, I do like that one very muchly! :D

      Sounds yummy!

For the record, your headers are gorgeous, too. I really like this new one!

Medieval is an awesome time period, yup *nods head*

Your answer to #1 of the SisterHood award xD

Oooh, my favorite snippet was the one about the memories. Yes, indeedy.
