It's been a year

Image
On this day, February 22, of last year, I published my first blogpost. Anybody know where the time went? Because I'm pretty sure I did this yesterday. The night before, while Mom and I were driving home (I think from church), I asked her the important question: "Can I start a blog?" She asked me why, and I gave her the reasons I had been coming up with since a few weeks before: improve my writing skills, share some of my photography, talk about life, etc. I was all excited about trying something new. I had done my research, so to speak, and I knew what I wanted to use this blog for. I jumped in, headfirst, and plowed through actually making the blog. I had fun trying out all the gadgets, and ended up spending several hours writing my first post. And so, The Shy Introvert. After many, many changes, now you see the finished product; perfect for now, in my eyes, but who knows if and when I'll do a compete overhaul on the design, or if I'll do another name ch...

What To Do?

Image
Hey all! I feel like I haven't really been writing as much as I should, but I'm out of ideas for posts. Are there any questions you want me to answer? Anything you want to know? Any post ideas? Tell me your thoughts, I'd be ever so grateful! ~Chloe

Summer

It's when... All the fields and pastures are brown. The cats are mostly active at night. Cows are huddled under trees, or soaking in ponds. Snakes are on the loose. A lot of grass fires happen. Grasshoppers fly up in a cloud with every step. Fire-ants are EVERYWHERE. The hens go on a laying strike. School's out. There's no rain. The sunsets are gorgeous. Pools are put into use. Families migrate north or to the beach. It's too hot to ride. Road work is mostly done at night. The lakes shrink. The sun is relentless. It's humid. Most people are remembering how winter really wasn't all that bad. So, why do I like summer?  I really don't know. Maybe, it's because I'm used to it coming around, every single year, and there's nothing I can do about it. Maybe, it's because I like getting reminded that having cooler months each year is a blessing. Maybe, i...

So, I have an obsession....

With quotes! Like really. I have five different documents open on my laptop dedicated to quotes. Ok, two of them are for movies and the quotes are mostly just funny sayings, one is quotes from movies that my family say, and one is funny things my older sister says, but that's besides the point. Anyways, I thought I would share some with y'all. For most of them I don't know who the author is, but they were just too good to pass up. "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." -Martin Luther King, Jr. "Many a false step is made by standing still." "Luck is when hard work meets opportunity." "You don't get to choose how you die, or when. You can only get to decide how you’re going to live."-Joan Baez “Peace is not the absence of trouble, but the presence of Christ.” "It is simply no good trying to keep any thrill: that is the very worst thing you can do. Let the thrill go - let it die away -...

Snippets Of Story

To post, or not post? I'm usually very protective about my works in progress. Ha! I even told Lydia once, "It's my baby... But I want to kill it!" I run home at a fast pace, quickly losing Brec and Favik. I slow to a walk when I reach our hut. I search under my cot for my sword, disregarding Greyla’s calls to care for the livestock, bring in another pail of water, and would you please quiet the dog? I grasp the cool metal hilt, and pull my sword out into the light. -The Lost Kingdom ~ Amarth. The fae who gave me this ‘gift’ was notorious for doling out charmingly horrendous curses. Charming for her sense of humor, but horrendous for the receiver. I’ve tried to find her, but she is strangely elusive unless… unless what? I don’t even know.  -Now They Whisper (my June QQ that decided leave me stranded) ~ “There is a reason her name means Doom. That is why you are here. All through your life we have been watching and studying you. You have a fighte...

The End....Of The Mind Game

Lydia and I were  slightly bored, so we wrote this short dialogue together. The 'L' signifies which parts she wrote, and the 'C' is what I wrote. L. Another month and still no reply.  C. I texted her a year ago.  L. I’m tired of the silence, tired of the emptiness inside, tired of waiting, tired of the nothingness of it all.  C. “Ba-bing!” My phone made a sound, bringing me out of my stupor.  L. “I DIED” it read.  C. “You’re messaging me, someone you don’t even really know, who sent you a text a year ago saying ‘hey’, that you died?” I wrote back. L. *Ping* “I DIED” came through again. “Seriously?” I thought, exasperated.  C. “Fine, we’ll play it your way.” “I DIED” I wrote back.  L. “Great! Where are you?”  C. “Excusem moi?” L. “I don’t speak Greek.”  C. “That’s French (I think) and you obviously don’t speak that either. Where were we supposed to meet again?” L. “Don’t you remember? The place we met th...

April Quote Queste: The Truth

Image
This is the  Quote Queste for April ! The rules are found  HERE . If you would like to participate, then go for it, don't be shy! This month's prompt: "A truth spoken before its time is dangerous." -Greek proverb My story this month: The Truth “A truth spoken before its time is dangerous.” The words of my father rang in my ears. “The Prosecution would like to call miss Natria Levyic to the stand.” I shivered as I stood and headed towards the front of the courtroom.  "What is your name?" "Natria Levyic." I answered. It seemed odd that the attorney would ask my name after just announcing it. “Would you be so kind as to tell us what happened on the night in question?” The prosecuting attorney asked me, almost kindly. I said nothing; after all, I did have the right to remain silent, did I not? “Could you share with us what happened?” Silence. “Miss, if you choose not to speak, the truth will not be revealed. Now, if you...

March Quote Queste: Too Early

Image
Ok, so this is my Quote Queste entry, or whatever you call it. It's a bit late, but hey, it's still March. Quote Queste was started by  Miss Melody Muffin The rules for the game can be found  HERE The prompt for this month: "It's too early in the day for killing princes." The story: “Why are we doing this again?” “Because we were paid to. Besides, we need money to eat and we need to eat to live.” “Just checking.”  Riyana crouched down in the alleyway, her little sister, Akinya beside her. “What time is it?” “I do not know. How many times must I tell you that I am not a clock, Akinya?” “Whatever time it is, it is too early in the day for killing princes.” “When we get paid to do a job, we do not get to decide what time it gets done. Come, we must go.”  Riyana slowly crept out of the city, Akinya followed. The castle stood up on a hill, surrounded by a wall. The sky in the East was still dark. Good, we still have plenty of time. She wove he...
