"Guardians of the Galaxy" Review

Image
I've been doing a lot of reviews lately, haven't I? Thank you, Munsells, for the recommendation. Thank you, Uncle Phil, for letting us borrow it! There's a second one somewhere, right? Actually, yes (according to Wikipedia). The filming is supposedly going to start in 2016, and come out sometime in 2017. The main characters are going to reprise their roles, and hopefully some to the plotholes in the first movie will be clearer. The Good: It was amazing! The CGI and special effects were executed perfectly! Groot is awesome! The Bad: Okay, out of all the Marvel movies I've seen, this one has the most language in it. The words are tossed around a bit more carelessly, mostly for the humor effect. (I didn't think it was funny) The Sad: The movie starts with his mom dying! How can that not be classified as sad? When Groot is building the barrier around his friends. Me: "Why does he have to die!?" Lydia: "Well, they had to have some

Health Update

I feel like the last post was a bit too pessimistic. So let's try this the optimistic(ish) way! Mia is completely fine now. Gabe's throat is still bothering him, almost to the point of tears sometimes. but he's having a very good attitude about it. He's such a trooper! Ava is still ok. Christian is perfectly healthy again. My eyes are cleared out now, (praise the Lord!) but my cough is doing a replay of Montana. Lydia is still coughing a bit. Mom's feeling more perky. To quote a famous movie: "If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."  Dad's still holding out. Hasn't gotten sick yet, still working away. So really, as a whole, most of us are doing fine. While the rest of us are doing our best to keep track of what meds we need to take, and focusing on getting better as soon as possible. Out of curiosity, what do you think of the new look? I like that it's simpler and easier to navigate withou

'Tis the Season

To have allergies. It's that time of the year again. (Why does it have to come twice  every  year though?) Everything's starting to die and decompose (plant wise), resulting in a lot more things in the air besides gasses, also more runny noses and sneezing fits. Mia's getting her six-year-old molars, so she's being more cranky than normal. Gabe has a sore throat. As far as I know, Ava is still fine. Christian just got his bottom braces, so his mouth is still slightly sore. He also seems to have a bit of a sore throat. I've been coughing more than normal in the mornings. Almost every time I go outside, I try to break my sneezing record. My eyes are being hyper-sensitive. It's amazing how much worse they look after doing a math lesson and scoring badly. Lydia has a stopped up nose, but other than that, I think she's fine. Mom has been super tired ever since we got back from Montana. Dad is off at meetings several times a week. He's a

"A Wrinkle in Time" Book Review

Image
Sorry, no pictures this time (just a few gifs to emphasize my points). A Wrinkle in Time , by Madeleine L’Engle (her name sounds really cool), follows the daring adventures of Meg, her little brother; Charles Wallace, and their friend; Calvin. Now, Charles Wallace is a very special little boy, he does not talk as much as boys his age usually do, yet he has made friends with three very old, very strange ladies, Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which, respectively. He knows exactly when Meg is feeling out of sorts, and knows just how to make her feel better. He is a great comfort to their mother. Unfortunately, their father has been missing for quite some time. Together, with the Mrs. etc and Calvin, they travel by tesseract to different planets in search of him. Upon their arrival to a planet I've forgotten the name of, they discover that everyone does everything at exactly the same time. This, of course, is the planet in which their father is being held hostage for not foll

"Alice In Wonderland" Book Review

Image
It was cute. I'll start with that. A little bit scatter-brained, maybe, but cute in it's own classic way. Alice in Wonderland , by Lewis Carroll, follows the dream of little Alice. Wherein, she chases a mysterious white rabbit down its hole, has tea with a mad hatter and a March hare, learns bits of wisdom from the Cheshire Cat, hears the sad tale of the mock-turtle, and meets the queen of hearts. It was a very quick read, it only took me a bit over an hour. Although definitely geared towards younger children, it was assigned to me to read it for school, so what can I say? It was enjoyable, the fact that it was short greatly pleased me, as I had been reading some rather heavy books. The lighting was perfect for pictures when I finished it. ~Chloe

What To Do?

Hey all! I feel like I haven't really been writing as much as I should, but I'm out of ideas for posts. Are there any questions you want me to answer? Anything you want to know? Any post ideas? Tell me your thoughts, I'd be ever so grateful! ~Chloe

"Little Boy" Review

It was one of those rip-your-heart-out-but-still-a-good-ending movies. It was amazing! You should watch it. Watch it now ! The Good: Gah! Pepper was so sweet! He's adorable, end of discussion. The makers did an excellent job portraying life back in the 40's. I love how the friendship between Pepper and Hashimoto developed. The Bad: There are a few moments where I felt like my heart had been smashed into a bazillion pieces, never to be healed again  chipped a bit. The Ugly: The kids are really really, I mean, REALLY  mean to Pepper. The racism is terrible, but understandable for the time. When London holds the gun up to Hashimoto's face, yeah, there were a few "hey, oh no he isn't"'s and a "if he keeps holding the gun that way, he's gonna get kicked in the face" heard in the living room. When Hashimoto's house gets vandalized and he gets beaten up. The Sad: When Hashimoto is in the hospital and we see Pepper

The Weekend of Awesomeness

As my uncle would put it. It started with a funeral. Scratch that. It started with a tire blow-out on the way to the funeral. Everyone was okay, but we arrived a bit sweaty and smelling faintly of highway. Take note: this is why you always plan an extra thirty minutes when your destination is over an hour away. The funeral was for Uncle Phil's aunt. After which, we had lunch at three, at a delicious Mediterranean restaurant. After arriving at their apartment, we discussed what to do for the rest of the afternoon. Thor  was mentioned, as was Ironman 2 , so while Uncle Phil started dinner, Aunt Lauren and I watched Thor . T'was fascinating! Now the second one makes more sense. Dinner was a delicious meal of chicken, salad, and potatoes. Because we needed to stay awake late (reason will be disclosed soon), we settled down to watch Ironman 2. The movie was over around 11ish. We started Saturday morning by going to a midnight showing of Jurassic Park  at the

Movie Quotes: Answers

Yes, I know it's early. Why is it early? Because I remembered that I'll be gone without the laptop over the weekend. Better early than late, am I right? Ok, onwards! 1. “There is some good in this world, and it’s worth fighting for.” Samwise Gamgee (if you said Sam, that counts as well), The Two Towers . 2. "Masquerade, paper faces on parade. Masquerade, hide your face, and the world will never find you." Phantom (Company counts as well), The Phantom of The Opera. 3. “Through a series of events, that had nothing to do with me….” Captain Jack Sparrow, Dead Man's Chest. 4. “It’s so fluffy I’m gonna die!” Agnes,  Despicable Me. 5. “Tell me…. Tell me….. Tell me….. OK, DON”T TELL ME!” Julian, Madagascar 2. 6. “And Daddy, they took my boot!” Jane, Tarzan. 7. "Angel of music, you deceived me. I gave my life blindly." Return of the Plot Bunnies

Smaug must have thought they were adorable, because he simply refused to incinerate them for me. Instead, they multiplied, and got so they were just too much for him. Long story short, he sent them back. And now I have decided on which lands/countries the Gulliver-ess will travel to. First stop: Oz. Second stop: Cloudland ( Jack and the Beanstalk ). Third stop: Neverland. Final stop: Narnia. Now to start it. Where to begin? I should find a prompt. If y'all have any ideas, please let me  know!  ~Chloe

Summer

It's when... All the fields and pastures are brown. The cats are mostly active at night. Cows are huddled under trees, or soaking in ponds. Snakes are on the loose. A lot of grass fires happen. Grasshoppers fly up in a cloud with every step. Fire-ants are EVERYWHERE. The hens go on a laying strike. School's out. There's no rain. The sunsets are gorgeous. Pools are put into use. Families migrate north or to the beach. It's too hot to ride. Road work is mostly done at night. The lakes shrink. The sun is relentless. It's humid. Most people are remembering how winter really wasn't all that bad. So, why do I like summer?  I really don't know. Maybe, it's because I'm used to it coming around, every single year, and there's nothing I can do about it. Maybe, it's because I like getting reminded that having cooler months each year is a blessing. Maybe, i

So, I have an obsession....

With quotes! Like really. I have five different documents open on my laptop dedicated to quotes. Ok, two of them are for movies and the quotes are mostly just funny sayings, one is quotes from movies that my family say, and one is funny things my older sister says, but that's besides the point. Anyways, I thought I would share some with y'all. For most of them I don't know who the author is, but they were just too good to pass up. "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." -Martin Luther King, Jr. "Many a false step is made by standing still." "Luck is when hard work meets opportunity." "You don't get to choose how you die, or when. You can only get to decide how you’re going to live."-Joan Baez “Peace is not the absence of trouble, but the presence of Christ.” "It is simply no good trying to keep any thrill: that is the very worst thing you can do. Let the thrill go - let it die away -

Movie Quotes: Announcement

I've decided to give y'all a few more days to guess, as I have only got one comment with answers in it at this point in time. Assuming everything goes as planned, the answers will be posted on the 15th. If no other answers are guessed, then it will be my painful duty to post the answers. In case y'all didn't see the previous Movie Quotes Post, I'll repost the quotes below. The rules are quite simple, really. All you have to do is, (1) Read each quote (2) Enlighten us as to which movie it came from* (3) Say who said it.* 1. “There is some good in this world, and it’s worth fighting for.” 2. The Worst Book Ever, And Plot Bunnies On Parade

I finished Gulliver's Travels ! *trumpets sound, and angels sing as Chloe jubilantly throws confetti everywhere* Ok, the celebration wasn't actually that loud, as I appeared to be the only one up at 11:37 last night. It was mostly a bunch of loud sighs of relief as I finally threw down the book for the last time. My thoughts? Basically, the book was terrible. It had so much potential, but the author had to go and ruin it with crudeness and things that really did not need mentioning. I mean, really. Did he have to go insane by the end of the book? He is always missing his wife and child, or so he claims, yet whenever he returns home from a voyage, vowing to never travel again, six months later, "oh, look at that, such and such is planning a voyage. Let me see if he'll take me on!" A retelling is definitely in order. With dragons. And more pirates. And I think Gulliver should be a girl this time, don't you? Oooo! She could go to Narnia as one of th

I promised weeks ago that I would do another "Movie Quotes" post. Unfortunately, life happened, therefore rendering me unable to do such a post until I remembered  until now. Without further ado, I guess I should go ahead and give the post to y'all before something terrible happens, like my pants catching fire because I waited too long .
